Beyond Conventional Thinking. Beyond Physical Spaces.

Reimagining Spaces, Connecting People, Transforming Possibilities.

Corporate Profile | Vision, Philosophy & Cultural Development

At Alternative Universe, we believe that meaningful development begins not with buildings, businesses, or products, but with people. Established as a multidisciplinary creative and development company, Alternative Universe Co., Ltd. brings together diverse experiences, professional backgrounds, and cultural perspectives to explore alternative approaches to the way we live, work, create, and connect.

Our practice moves across architecture, property development, hospitality, creative industries, cultural programming, brand development, and lifestyle experiences. Although these disciplines may appear different, they share a common ambition: to improve community wellbeing and enrich human experiences from the inside out.

Working both domestically and internationally, Alternative Universe collaborates with individuals, organizations, and communities seeking unconventional approaches to developing and managing properties, brands, products, and services.

We believe that lasting achievements are rarely created in isolation. They emerge through thoughtful collaboration, mutual trust, shared imagination, and the generous participation of people who believe in the possibility of creating something extraordinary.

For us, development is not simply about constructing physical environments. It is about cultivating relationships, encouraging cultural exchange, and creating places where new possibilities can emerge.

THE FOUNDER'S VISION

Social Infrastructure as a Catalyst for Change

At the heart of Alternative Universe is the vision of its founder and corporate leader, Patavee Viranuvat, whose interest in social infrastructure development has shaped the company's philosophy and direction. Following his postgraduate studies at the Graduate School of International Management, International University of Japan in 2015, Patavee began exploring the relationship between economic development, urban environments, cultural identity, and social progress.

His belief emerged from a fundamental observation: many obstacles to Thailand's long-term development cannot be addressed through conventional infrastructure investment or economic policies alone. Societies also require places that encourage interaction, collaboration, creativity, education, and the exchange of ideas. These environments form what Patavee considers an essential dimension of social infrastructure — the physical, cultural, and institutional spaces that strengthen relationships and enable communities to thrive.

Driven by this philosophy, he founded Alternative Universe Co., Ltd. and developed complementary initiatives, including Projectionist ASIA and Season Maniac, to challenge conventional development models and explore new forms of social and cultural participation.

Among the company's ambitious concepts is the Double-Twin Cities Project (DTC), an initiative reflecting its interest in alternative regional development frameworks and the relationship between cities, economies, and communities.

Rather than treating development as a purely commercial exercise, Alternative Universe approaches it as a broader social and cultural responsibility.

FROM IDEAS TO SPACES

Creating Physical Environments for Human Connection

In an increasingly digital world, Alternative Universe recognizes the importance of genuine human interaction. Technology has enabled unprecedented connectivity, yet meaningful relationships, shared experiences, and spontaneous encounters still depend on environments where people can physically come together. This belief became an important foundation for Slure Project, an alternative creative space in Bangkok's Sathorn district, which commenced its public-facing activities in February 2019.

Conceived as an early prototype of Alternative Universe's broader philosophy, Slure Project explored how physical spaces could encourage cultural participation, creative exchange, and face-to-face interaction.

Its significance extended beyond the space itself. It represented an attempt to translate an abstract corporate philosophy into a tangible social experience. Through this approach, Alternative Universe began demonstrating that even relatively small-scale environments could become catalysts for broader cultural and community development.

PROJECTIONIST ASIA & CINELOUNGE ASIA

Cinema as Social Infrastructure

Cinema occupies a distinctive place within Alternative Universe's cultural philosophy.

Beyond its artistic and entertainment value, cinema is a universal language capable of connecting people across generations, nationalities, and cultural boundaries. Through Projectionist ASIA, Alternative Universe has pursued its interest in independent cinema, creative communities, and the development of cultural platforms that support meaningful exchange. This vision finds a physical expression in CineLounge ASIA, a dedicated cultural gathering space conceived as more than a conventional screening venue.

CineLounge ASIA brings cinema, visual arts, literature, conversation, and creative collaboration into a shared environment.

Rather than defining itself solely through film screenings or exhibitions, it aims to become a home for ideas — a place where filmmakers, artists, writers, and culturally engaged individuals can meet, exchange perspectives, and create new relationships.

In this context, culture becomes an essential component of social infrastructure.

A film screening can begin a conversation. An exhibition can challenge a familiar perspective. A simple gathering can develop into a lasting collaboration. These seemingly modest interactions are precisely the experiences that Alternative Universe believes can contribute to a healthier, more imaginative society.

SEASON MANIAC

A Collaborative Platform for Social Infrastructure and International Development

Established in 2015, Season Maniac (SM) was conceived as an international collaborative community founded on a shared belief that a better society begins with people working together beyond conventional boundaries.

Developed as part of the broader vision of Alternative Universe Co., Ltd., Season Maniac operates through a partnership-based model that brings together individuals and organizations from diverse professional, cultural, and geographical backgrounds.

Rather than functioning as a conventional organization, Season Maniac embraces an open collaborative system in which members contribute their individual strengths, knowledge, experiences, and resources toward shared ambitions.

At its heart lies a simple philosophy: meaningful social progress emerges when individual capabilities become collective possibilities.

Inspired by globalization, human mobility, evolving urban environments, and the changing relationships between communities and cities, Season Maniac focuses on international initiatives involving social infrastructure, physical infrastructure, and alternative approaches to regional development.

Its ambition extends beyond constructing buildings or developing urban projects. It seeks to establish lasting relationships between people, institutions, cultures, and places — recognizing that the true foundation of sustainable development is not infrastructure alone, but the communities it connects.

THE BEGINNING OF A CROSS-BORDER VISION

Double-Twin Cities Project — Sapporo, Japan, 2015

On 16 September 2015, Season Maniac launched its first pilot initiative, the Double-Twin Cities Project (DTC), at CAI02 (Contemporary Art Institute) in Sapporo, Japan, with the support of Satoshi Hata.

The project marked an important milestone in transforming Season Maniac's collaborative philosophy into an international development initiative.

Conceived as an alternative framework for connecting cities, communities, and creative networks, the Double-Twin Cities Project explored how cooperation across geographical and cultural boundaries could generate new opportunities for social, cultural, and economic development.

By considering human movement, regional relationships, and shared resources as essential elements of future development, the initiative challenged conventional approaches to urban growth and international collaboration.

The launch in Sapporo symbolized the beginning of a broader ambition: to create connections between cities not simply through institutional agreements or commercial investment, but through the active participation of people who share a commitment to building a more inclusive and interconnected society.

A COMMUNITY WITHOUT BORDERS

Season Maniac represents the belief that meaningful change does not necessarily begin with large institutions, substantial financial resources, or established systems.

Sometimes, it begins with a small group of individuals who share a different vision of the future.

By connecting people across disciplines, generations, and nationalities, Season Maniac seeks to transform independent ideas into collective initiatives capable of generating lasting social value.

Because the future of a better society should not be designed by a few, but imagined and developed together by many.

PROJECTIONIST ASIA

Beyond Boundaries. Beyond Generations. Beyond Cinema.

Founded in 2015, Projectionist ASIA (PA) is a contemporary art and cultural management and co-financing platform dedicated to discovering, encouraging, and supporting emerging creative talents across Asia.

Established by Patavee Viranuvat, Co-Founder and CEO of Alternative Universe Co., Ltd., together with a network of investors, art collectors, and cultural collaborators from Asia and Europe, Projectionist ASIA was conceived through a shared belief in the extraordinary potential of Asian creativity.

Our inspiration comes from people. Our passion lies in contemporary design, visual arts, cinema, music, literature, and the cultural expressions that shape our collective imagination.

At its heart, Projectionist ASIA believes that the future of Asian culture depends not only on the talents we celebrate today, but on the opportunities we create for those who will shape tomorrow.

As one of the principal cultural pillars of Alternative Universe Co., Ltd., an international multidisciplinary social infrastructure development company based in Bangkok, Projectionist ASIA connects artistic expression with cultural investment, international collaboration, and long-term creative development.

Rather than limiting its activities to traditional art management or cultural sponsorship, Projectionist ASIA embraces an experimental and interdisciplinary approach that allows artists, filmmakers, designers, writers, and cultural organizations to explore new possibilities beyond established institutional and commercial boundaries.

DISCOVER & ENCOURAGE

A Philosophy Inspired by Those Who Believe in Others

The founding philosophy of Projectionist ASIA can be expressed through two simple yet meaningful words:

Discover & Encourage.

These words reflect a belief that discovering talent is only the beginning. Equally important is providing the encouragement, trust, opportunity, and human connection necessary for creativity to flourish.

This philosophy draws particular inspiration from the late Kim Jiseok, whose dedication to Asian cinema and unwavering belief in emerging filmmakers helped shape generations of cinematic voices.

His legacy reminds us that supporting culture is not merely about recognizing artistic achievement. It is about recognizing the people behind the work, understanding their struggles, and believing in their potential long before the wider world discovers them.

Alongside Kim Jiseok, Projectionist ASIA acknowledges the many cultural pioneers, artists, curators, and individuals who have devoted their lives to protecting artistic freedom, nurturing creative communities, and creating opportunities for others.

Their commitment inspires our understanding of cultural responsibility.

To discover is to recognize possibility. To encourage is to give that possibility a future.

BUILDING A FOUNDATION FOR ASIAN CREATIVITY

Since its establishment, Projectionist ASIA has sought to support a diverse range of creative initiatives, including contemporary art projects, artistic collaborations, exhibitions, cultural gatherings, independent cinema, and film-related events throughout Asia.

Its activities are guided by a belief that artistic development requires more than individual talent or financial resources.

It requires an ecosystem in which creative individuals can encounter new perspectives, exchange knowledge, receive meaningful support, and build enduring relationships.

Projectionist ASIA therefore approaches cultural development through three interconnected dimensions:

Creative Discovery — Identifying and encouraging emerging artists, filmmakers, writers, and designers whose distinctive perspectives may contribute to the future of Asian culture.

Cultural Collaboration — Connecting individuals, institutions, investors, collectors, and creative organizations across Asia and internationally to develop meaningful artistic initiatives.

Sustainable Cultural Development — Exploring alternative approaches to cultural management, co-financing, and the development of environments that allow creative communities to grow beyond individual projects or events.

Through these efforts, Projectionist ASIA seeks to make artistic opportunities more accessible while encouraging cultural exchange beyond national, disciplinary, and generational boundaries.

CINEMA AS A UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE

Connecting Asian Stories with the World

Cinema has become one of the most meaningful areas of Projectionist ASIA's cultural engagement.

As an art form capable of crossing geographical, linguistic, and social boundaries, cinema offers a powerful platform for understanding different lives, cultures, and human experiences.

Projectionist ASIA believes that Asian cinema should not be defined solely by commercial success, international recognition, or national identity.

Its greatest strength lies in the diversity of perspectives, emotions, and stories that emerge from the region.

Supporting independent cinema therefore means protecting the freedom of filmmakers to explore their own artistic languages while helping them establish meaningful connections with audiences and creative communities.

Inspired by the generosity and vision of Kim Jiseok, Projectionist ASIA seeks to contribute to an environment where Asian filmmakers are not simply presented to the world, but are genuinely understood, respected, and encouraged.
