Alternative Universe Co., Ltd., is proud to present the "Face of the Future Award". This award grants a cash prize of KRW 10,000,000 to the Asian film in the Vision section that most strongly represents the future of Asian cinema. Through this initiative, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting creativity, nurturing emerging voices, and contributing to the continued growth of the Asian film industry.
The Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), established in 1996, is one of Asia’s most prestigious film festivals and a major cultural event held every October in Busan, South Korea. It is widely recognized as the leading platform for discovering and promoting new Asian talent, having introduced directors such as Bong Joon-ho (Parasite) and Hirokazu Kore-eda (Shoplifters) to global audiences. Unlike many other festivals, BIFF combines its role as a public celebration of cinema with its function as an industry hub, hosting the Asian Contents & Film Market and the Asian Project Market to connect filmmakers with producers, distributors, and investors. This dual focus has helped Asian films secure international financing and distribution, while also encouraging cross-cultural collaboration between filmmakers worldwide. The festival’s large and passionate local audiences create a unique atmosphere that builds momentum for films and directors, further amplifying their reach. Beyond showcasing global cinema, BIFF has played a key role in the international rise of Korean cinema and continues to shape the way Asian films gain recognition and influence in the global film industry.
For Mr. Patavee Viranuvat, the Busan International Film Festival holds a deeply personal and professional significance. He first attended the festival in 2008 (AFA 2008), marking his initial step onto the international stage shortly after graduating from Bachelor of Film & Television (Bond University, Australia). That moment became a turning point in his filmmaking journey, opening the doors for his career beyond Thailand and giving him his first real connection with the global film community. To him, returning to Busan is not only a professional milestone but also an emotional experience, tied to the roots of his growth as a filmmaker. The festival represents more than just an event—it symbolizes the starting point of his international career and carries lasting importance for his work with Alternative Universe and, in particular, Projectionist ASIA, which continues to champion Asian cinema on a wider stage.
